What to buy now ?

It is as usual volatile market now.
No one can predict the trend in this kind of market conditions.
Is it time to buy or sell ? Billion dollar question ! !
My Feelings:
Don't invest in Small and Mid Caps.
Wait and watch for a week and buy only NIFTY and BSE at every fall.
Hold what ever you bought earlier which is not in a big loss.
Buy now to average what ever you had bought earlier at a high cost.
Don't sell unless there is more than 20% profit.
Don't sell now, if you can hold it till March ‘10.
Some Recommendations:
Reliance Capital, Alstom Projects, UTV Software, Tech Mahindra, IFCI,

2G Spectrum

What is 2G Spectrum?

2G is ‘Second Generation’ wireless telephone technology.

After the launch of 2G, we tend to call the earlier basic service as 1G.

2G obviously more efficient on the spectrum allowing for far greater penetration. In 1G network signals are analog while it is digital in 2G.

It increases system capacity as digital voice data can be compressed and multiplexed more effectively, thus allowing more calls to be backed into the same amount of radio bandwidth.

Most importantly the digital system emit less radio power from the handsets.

Also, we all know digital means increased sound quality.

Beyond 2G there is 3G (Third Generation) Higher data speeds and 4G in developed countries.

The first Pre-Commercial 3G or Third generation was launched in Japan by NTT DoCoMo in Japan in May 2001.

In India MTNL started 3G enabled mobile service in 2008.

There is going to be auction for 3G in India soon.

With Government FDI norms relaxed, Google is intending to bid with an Indian partner.

SENSEX Watch

Sensex watch will give us how we miss opportunities.

sensex closing

8th Oct ‘09        16844 up by 37 points

8th Oct ‘08         11328 down by 367 points

Sensex October 2008  Low is 8510  (on 27th Oct ‘08)

This will give us an idea how much we miss an opportunity to cash in.

Many investors stopped watching or following the market when the market was moving downwards.

Every fall is opportunity to invest (Buy).

Another Example is March 2009.

Be a disciplined investor. Follow market on daily basis.

You must watch the price of your holdings everyday.

Have target price and book profit.

Set Stop loss and adhere to it strictly.

Wealth Creation, what does it mean?

Accumulating money for a future goal. (saving)

It should beat inflation.

There are many ways.

(Bank FD, RD, Company Deposits, Post Office Saving schemes, Insurance Plans, Mutual Funds, Gold and Land) - the order has no significance.

Remembering Mahatma

I feel, on this Special Day, remembering him is must for every Indian.

He was and is inspiration for many world Top leaders and also to many Individuals. (Martin Luther King to Obama, Beatles to MJ).

I would like to present here the song “They Killed Him” from album ‘knocked Out Loaded’ first written by Kris Kristofferson.

My God, they killed him

There was a man named Mahatma Gandhi

He would not bow down he would not fight

He knew the deal was down and dirty

and nothing wrong could make it right away

But he knew his duty and the price he had to pay

Just another holy man who tried to be a friend

My God, they killed him !

Thanks TOI

Simple way to start SHARE Trading

There is always many doubts in the minds of a new comer, that too in share trading it is many fold higher.
Here is one way of starting it.

Prepare a watch list of 5 to 10 companies Shares.
To prepare this 'watch list' watch Business TVs, Talk to your friends who is in trading or your Broker.
Note down the closing prices of these cos in a excel sheet for 10 days.
This will give you an idea about the price movements in the watch list.
Start buying when it is stabilizing at a price. keep watching.
Fix a target price and book profit when it reaches the price target.
Book profit and enjoy,  this will motivate you to do more trading.
Talk with people, this will help gaining knowledge.
Accumulate the Holdings at every fall.
( we can see how to average in a separate post)
I always believe in holding for a long term, i don't do any Intra day or  Futures / options trading.
This is one of the ways to start Equity Trading.
Careful (watchful) trading will definitely give better returns than any other deposit options.
START TRADING AND MULTIPLY YOUR MONEY.

Start SIP Today

It is time (for that matter any time is good) to start SIP in Mutual Fund.

Now there is no entry load. you gain that extra 2.25% (approx).

Select your AMC ( Asset Management Company = Mutual Fund company), then select your fund.

(you may avail the services of a financial adviser and never hesitate to pay him a fee)

Longer the term the better.

Remember, you can stop at any point of time, by just giving a letter.

Important, NEVER STOP because the market is at its downward trend.
(you MUST buy at lower levels)

It is one of the best ways to build a corpus.

Jaswant vs Jinnah vs BJP

we read something as history and we believe it , may be because we are democrats (majority rules !).
And all of a sudden some one, almost after 62 years, comes in saying something which we (majority rules again) dont want to believe.
Can any one or Mr Jaswant singh answer few questions
I feel, he would have been in his 20s by that time (around 1947), why wait so F.. A.. R.. ?
Whats the purpose now?
Is it a tactic, like our foreign cricketers, to sell the book ?
comments are welcome.

No ENTRY Load – MF investments

Do you know ? ? ?

There is “no entry load”  on Mutual Fund investments from   1st August 2009.

when you invest in Mutual Funds thro’ Financial Advisor, so far, there is an entry load of 2.25% ( even for SIP investments). This is up to 31st July.

SEBI, the regulator ruled that there should not be any entry load on investments from 1st August 2009. There will be an exit load of 1% on redemption.

what the investor should do now ?

wait till the deadline and then invest(after 31st July)?

what the Advisor should do now ?

advise the client not to invest in July’09 ?

what the AMCs should do now ?

close the doors and stop accepting the purchases?

what is actually happening ? ? ? ? ? ?

what is right ?

is there any answer ? ? ?

Equity Investing

why one should invest in equity.

The market was very volatile (as usual) in the recent times.

During 2009 Sensex was at a high of 15600 in June and at a low of  8047 in March.

If you buy and hold at every low you would have gained in an average 20% to 30%.

If you feel the return of 20 % to 30 % in  share market is very less, then you dint understand market and it is not the place for you. you have to start some other business.

You buy regularly at every low and hold it for a long term. ( long term differs from person to person). For someone who earned or lost huge in share market one month is long term.

Normally you hold it for min 3 years, accumulate at every opportunity. if the price of your holding rises more than 70% sell it off. Sit on cash. wait for the opportunity.

It happened between March’09 to June’09. Unimaginable return. Axis Bank, ICICI Bank and Reliance Capital gave more than 150% return.

it is very occasional. at times you may loose also but never sell at a loss. wait for the opportunity to buy. every fall is an opportunity.

So invest in equity, treat it as a business, devote time for this every day.

Happy Trading

What’s your money worth

(I feel Budget in India is nothing of interest, for most of the middle class and below, except the direct tax exemptions)
I would like to rewrite here, the article of Ms Mohini Kent on Sunday Times, on the Budget eve.

WEALTH HAS BECOME THE YARDSTICK OF SUCCESS.

“If a man is wealthy,(it means)he is handsome and wise and he can sing well too” it is a Yiddish proverb but it could be applied anywhere in the world, with wealthy people expressing ‘strong’ opinions on everything under the sun. Money seems to confer the highest caste on people and they seen to hold the key to wisdom. we listen to them attentively, hoping some of the magic will rub off on to us.

It is been instrumental in improving our lives and made the world far more democratic because anyone can buy anything today in exchange for a few pieces of paper.

Today, the poor can afford what even the rich found difficult in the past – foreign travel, for instance.

It is one of the major energies of the world, along with sex, although in many cases, the two go together. Even remote tribal who still live in a moneyless world feel the force of money when outsiders use paper currency to buy their land and are granted the right to fell their forests.

So, what do we do? Make money, spend it and enjoy it. In the meantime, it is vital to recognize our relationship with money and how it colors our relationships with others, including those most dear to us. Money is not a piece of printed paper, it has acquired enormous emotional connotations and psychological hues.

Money spells power, control, comfort and security. Fawning friends and the envy of peers makes having money even more satisfying . It gives us a sense of superiority.

Sometimes it seem as if a man’s most enduring love affair is with money, his own money and that of others.

it is an obsession, almost an occult possession by another entity. In its pursuit, men and women can become ruthless, even evil.

Rich men use money to cheat death by trying to buy immortality . some of the foundations they run have less to do with compassion and more to do with their personal wish to perpetuate their names. It’s extremely rare for anyone voluntarily to give up money and power. Andrew Carnegie (Nov25,1835 – Aug 11,1919) was that rare individual. He wondered “what to do with the enormous wealth we have” and wrote that surplus wealth could be disposed off in three ways

  1. Left it to the family
  2. Bequeathed (willed) for a public purpose
  3. Administered in one’s lifetime

Traditionally, people opt for for one of the first two but Carnegie concluded that an individual should “ set an example of unostentatious living; provide moderately for the legitimate wants of those dependent upon him: and, after doing so, to consider all surplus revenues which come to him simply as trust funds” to be used for the good of the community. The man of wealth then becomes a trustee and agent for his poor fellowmen.

Carnegie knew all about poverty. He was born in a one-room cottage in Scotland. His family emigrated to America, where he took up his first job at 13 years in a cotton mill. In a classic rags-to-riches story, he built a profitable empire of steel (which later became US Steel) and became the world’s second richest man, after Rockefeller. After some time, Carnegie sold his company and devoted the rest of his life to philanthropy, building more than 3000 libraries, schools and universities in America. He wrote: “The man who dies rich dies disgraced”. By the time he died, he had given away the bulk of his vast fortune. In India JRD Tata did something similar.

Money can bring us joy; it can bring us misery; it can buy us attention, isolate us; binds families or split them. Everyone have to understand money, build a healthy relationship with it, realize its true value and purpose.

Thanks Sunday Times.

I feel In India, we have more Philanthropists. N R Narayana Murthy and Nandan Nilekani come to my mind immediately.

Govt budget alone can not bring in welfare to all the citizens in any country. The rich and the Corporate have a duty to contribute MORE to the Nation.

SIP >> Systematic Investment Plan

Did you benefit from the record rise on ‘Golden Monday’ post election results?

Popular belief is that most of the investors could not benefit from this rally as more often than not,

investments are guided by feeling of greed and fear.

Remember, an investor’s worst enemy is not stock market, but his own emotions.

Only those investors

who remained invested throughout the turbulent period

or

invested when market sentiment was at its ebb

or

continued with their Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) have eventually benefited.

I would like to reiterate,

"It is not timing the market, it’s time in the market that is important".

Wealth isn’t something to admire. It is something you create.

Think of each SIP payment as laying a brick. One by one, you can lay the foundation for secured financial future.

Reliance Infrastructure Fund

The big question is

Is it RIGHT TIME to invest in infrastructure NOW ?

Yes. one may invest in this Reliance Infrastructure NOW.

Reasons:

  1. It is NFO (New Fund Offer). units are allotted at Rs 10 with applicable load.
  2. It is Infrastructure. when India Grows Infrastructure Grows and vice versa.
  3. Mutual Funds, Insurance Companies, Corporate, FIIs and HNI Investors are waiting in the sidelines to invest in Indian Market so there seem to be no correction in sight.
  4. Political stability. Immediate priority of the new Government being revival of economic growth.
  5. Lower cost of Debt envisages Liquidity.
  6. Valuations of Infra companies reasonable even at this level.
  7. I personally feel every NFO is opportunity to save and a step to build a corpus on long term goal.
  8. Invest now and hold it at least for 3 years.

Equity Investing

I do Hope, you all will agree that you cant spend all the money you earn.
Everyone must save some portion of their earnings. Right?
where and how is the big question.
Multiplying the money is great art.
Intially you may take help from an Investment Advisor.
You get fixed risk free returns (approx 8 to 11 %) from

  1. Bank Deposits
  2. Company Deposits
  3. Post Office Schemes
  4. PPF

Here your money gets doubled in (approx) in 8 years.

But you also have to look for some variable returns with some risk.

That is equity trading or share trading where your money MAY get doubled in 3 months ALSO.

also there may be notional loss.

NPS New Pension System - review

NPS – New Pension System.

The very name – NPS - is having different expansions.

As per PFRDA website NPS is NEW PENSION SYSTEM.

As per Times of India it is NATIONAL PENSION SCHEME.

As per majority of public it is NEW PENSION SCHEME.

Most of the charges are FIXED not percentage on subscription. so if you start with minimum subscription you lose more on charges.
At any point of time you can not come out of the pension scheme by foreclosing. (that is you cant withdraw 100 %).
No scheme without an Advisor or Agent ( how ever you call them) to canvass will succeed.
more to come.

'BREATHING' a minute please

I would like to share this article which i read from The Times of India.

Excerpts from the High Value ‘Breath Taking’ article.

Teachings of His Holiness Sri Sri Ravishankar Founder ‘The Art of Living’

Health is having a disease free body, a quiver free breath,

a stress free mind, an inhibition free intellect,

an obsession free memory, an ego that includes all

and a soul that is free from sorrow.

The holistic approach of well being includes exercise, breathing and meditation.

Breath is synonymous to Life. Our Life is our Breath, our breath is our life.

Breathing is the first act of life and it’s the last act of life.

In between, the entire life we are breathing in and out, but not attending to the breath.

Have you ever counted how many times you breathe in a minute?

In one minute we breathe nearly 16 to 17 times.

If you are upset it may go up to 20 and

When you are angry and tense it could go to 25.

It is 10 per minute when you are calm and happy,

2 to 3 if you are in meditation.

We are using only 30% of our lung capacity.

The mind is like a kite and the breath, a thread.

For the mind to go high the breath needs to be longer.

Your Breath gives enormous energy.

Smile more in life. Don’t take things too seriously.

Thoughts

Brain also needs Rest.
Anything that labours, be it a machiine or a body part, needs rest to survive and function properly.
the Brain is no exception, yet it rarely gets any rest.
Even during sleep the other body parts only get rest, the brain continue to process data and repair the body's damages.
trataka only can ensure almost no work for brain during the duration of this practice.
  • Sit cross-legged with the spine erect
  • place a lighted candle at eye level and at an arms distance
  • ensure that there is no wind to blow out the flame
  • close your eyes and sit still
  • concentrate on your breath for a minute or so
  • keep it natural
  • open your eyes and gaze at the brightest spot of the flame
  • continue gazing without blinking for 2 - 3 minutes
  • after that close your eyes gently
  • you will be able to see the clear after-image of the flame
  • concentrate on it till it fades
  • repeat the process 3 times, each round should be 5 minutes
  • in the end, rub your palms till they are warm and gently place them on the closed eyes
  • repeat 3 times
  • this will remove the tiredness from the delicate optic nerves

Doing trataka with a bright object like the candle flame for more than a month is not advisable.Use some other object such as a black spot or an image of your favourite deity.
